Fantastic turn out for our first DMC meet up of 2020. There's clearly a huge appetite across the art school for exploring facial recognition, surveillance and deepfakes.
Below are a few interesting resources and provocations we came across and discussed together.
We spent the first part of the meet up getting to know each of our own personal motivations and agendas for exploring art school/creative perspectives of facial recognition, surveillance and deepfakes together. This meet up is being supported by UAL CCW DMC Digital Maker Collective, in partnership with CRIN Child Rights International Network, one of our event collaborators.
It was great to see lots of new faces along side current members of the Digital Maker Collective. The goal for these meet ups are to create new collaborative work, activities, installations and engage with external collaborators in preparation for the Tate Exchange #Uni2Unicorns event at Tate Modern 3-8 March.
We split into two separate interest groups Surveillance and DeepFake and started to focus and plan specific areas of research and development.
The DMC meet ups aim to establish and grow an informal R&D network of UAL staff, students & alumni to collectively explore emerging tech. We have 3X informal meet ups on Weds 15th Jan 5pm-7.30pm at the Camberwell playground. Open to UAL staff, students and alumni (industry collaborators also welcome), led by Digital Maker Collective.
